Landlords, heads up—L.A. is considering another major eviction restriction, and this one feels like COVID déjà vu.
This Friday, February 14th, the L.A. City Council will vote on Agenda Item 13, a motion that would ban evictions for an entire year (through January 31, 2026) for renters claiming to be "economically impacted" by last month's fires. Sound familiar?
If passed, this would prohibit evictions for non-payment of rent and No-Fault evictions (including Owner Move-Ins), adding yet another hurdle for property owners.
Just like during COVID, there's no clear verification process for hardship claims, potentially leaving owners holding the bag for another year of unpaid rent with little to no recourse.
What this means for your bottom line:
The timing couldn't be worse, with many owners still recovering from COVID-era losses and facing higher interest rates and operating costs.
If you're concerned about this (and you should be), consider joining us at City Hall this Friday. The more owners present, the stronger our voice.
